Aids – A Challenge Of The World

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) was first discovered in 1983 in Paris, France. This virus causes a disease named Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, which is shortly known as AIDS. There is no medicine to kill this killer virus. Hence the number of people infected by this virus is increasing year by year. This disease is transmitted through the drugs injecting needles which are not sterilized. It is also transmitted through either sexually or from birth if the mother is HIV positive. The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that over one million children over the world are affected by AIDS. The common way of HIV infection in children is vertically from the mother.

When the virus enters in to the body of a person, he/she come across many stages of the infection. In the initial stage, the virus does not produce virus proteins to affect the antibodies. This stage may stand for eight to ten weeks. After this period the virus starts to release antigen, which is not detected by the body at first.

Soon the person started to loose his immune power. Thus he becomes resistant to disease. If the disease like Tuberculosis, pneumonia affects the HIV patient, then he cannot be saved. The maximum expected lifetime of HIV infected person is 12-13 years. These people face many challenges, both mentally and physically. Many are neglected in the family as well as in the society. Although there are many AIDS care center which provide care to these people. So people who live in these centers are more in number.

The most reason for the spread of AIDS is due to illiteracy among the people. People who suffer AIDS are increasing year by year only because of it.

Once this virus is entered into the body, it cannot be killed. So taking preventive measures can avoid the spreading of disease. Since there is no physical symptoms for AIDS, testing of HIV in the blood is must for every one. Many women are affected by HIV after their marriage without the knowledge that her partner has AIDS. So before marrying, testing the existence of HIV can save many people. Most commonly poor people become the victims of this virus. Also women who are HIV positive should not allow giving birth to children, because when the children grow up, their mother would have died and it is rare that they will be able to live happily without the neglect of others. Thinking of neglecting in the family and society makes people take a rude decision on themselves. In this case Counseling can create a great difference in them.

Now a day NGO’s and Government are creating awareness programs which helps people. Loving and caring is a significant factor which plays a vital role in the life of these people. Everybody started to realize how complication is the situation of these people are at present. Many efforts are carrying out to discover the medicine to kill this virus and save people from it.
